At Montecito Academy, the students there walked into their classrooms on Tuesday, September 6, to find their name tents on their desks and Whole Champion Foundation Workbooks among their other curricular materials. The students and their parents or guardians were greeted by not only their teachers and Montecito Academy Founder and Director Kori Rider, M.A., by also by Barbara Edelston Peterson, founder of Whole Champion Foundation, who enthused over the “uniquely structured environment for K-12 students whose personal and family needs require flexibility in schedule and learning approaches.”
Edelston Peterson, who shared for a few minutes during an opening session that kicked off the school year, said, “It was an honor to learn that Montecito Academy’s motto for the 2022-2023 school year is ‘a whole person makes the whole world better.’” (This motto is also the name of Edelston Peterson’s book, A Whole Person Makes the Whole World Better.)
Montecito Academy Director and Founder Kori Rider, M.A., said, “We believe that educating children is more than academics, and we believe it is important to teach students what it means to be a well-rounded individual. By partnering with Whole Champion, our students are provided with a curricula that reinforces actions aligned with our values: self-care, emotional health, social connection, environmental awareness and global responsibility.”
Edelston Peterson loved meeting the students, their parents, and the teachers on the first day of school. She called it “inspiring and thrilling to see the Whole Champion curricular materials in every classroom on day one.”
Edelston Peterson has been invited to return to talk with the Montecito Academy students later this week at a local park. There, she will discuss the importance of personal, social, and environmental responsibility and how every day every person can choose to do something for cause in which they believe.
Located in Summerlin, California, Montecito Academy’s mission is “to provide engaging and academically challenging instruction for students in an environment that fosters the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of its students.
